USDA Germplasm Repository Open House: July 26

10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m at the National Clonal Germplasm Repository
"The USDA Germplasm Repository open house will open your eyes to experience plant diversity. Last year 230+ different varieties of blue berries were ripe and I had the gastronomic pleasure of attempting to taste all. Many pears are also ripe at this time, a new experience for me. I strongly suggest you make every effort to attend; the numbers of different cultivars at this one location is unique in the world." - Ted Swensen

There will be a combined open house event at the USDA Germplasm Repository and OSU Horticulture Research Farm on Saturday, July 26. Visitors will be invited to arrive between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with the last tour finishing about 3:00 p.m.

Buses or vans will be available (walking is also an option) to take visitors to four different parts of the farm for fruit sampling and presentations by OSU and USDA researchers on:

  1. USDA blueberry germplasm conservation
  2. OSU cherry rootstock trials and tunnel production
  3. USDA blueberry irrigation research & OSU vegetable breeding
  4. USDA pear germplasm conservation and small fruit breeding
