Is there an East Coast/NE equivalent of HOS?
A few years ago I was bitten by the desire to have honey bees... I've now been bitten by the "apple tree bug" and wish there was an "HOS" on my coast.
I've planted four trees and ordered a variety of rootstocks to play with.
Your so lucky to have such an active group...

I don't know, but there are some mighty good orchardists who live on the East Coast posting on the fruit forum at Garden Web.

I'm in the midwest and have recently been interested in apple trees and other trees. There's an old homestead near us that has an apple orchard and they sell their apples during the season. I was surprised by all the varieties they have as well as other local berries and fruits. I've got some berries starting in some plant containers this year but would like to start an apple tree too maybe this year or next year.

I haven't joined the membership yet, but check out Backyard Fruit Growers out of Boyertown, PA. They have their own web site with lots of great information. I am not too far from there, and their information has proven invaluable to this area.

A pretty site, Molly – loaded with useful links! http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dailey/byfg.html"The informal association of Backyard Fruit Growers began in 1990 as an exchange of information for amateurs and others in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, who wish to produce excellent fruit for the family, and to respect the backyard environment. Members get together four times a year at seasonal meetings (Winter, Spring Grafting, Summer Orchard Tour, Fall Apple Tasting) to share ideas and fellowship. Members also receive a newsletter, Backyard Fruit Grower, which has a circulation of about 350."
