Well, there are people around here better at this than me… but I’d say it simply put on a second or late burst of growth. Maybe it took the fertilizer that long to be taken up and go to work? It appears to be a “Tip bearer,” thus it’s terminal bud is attempting to do just that,

Hummm, I wouldn’t worry, just enjoy it till we hit the teens or Portland’s
Coho Wind-chill equivalent …but if such blooms were consistent, fruit or not – I’d buy one!
