Post Need apple scion wood ... please help!
Dear all -
I missed the scion exchange due to illness. It's a real bummer.
Any chance any of you have scion wood that I can have/buy from you? I am happy to travel anywhere in the Portland/Vancouver metro area. I am particularly looking for the following:
"Bellflower"
"Ambrosia"
"Esopus Spitzenburg"
"Red Baron"
"Airlie Red Flesh"
Or any other variety you can spare :)

Thanks ever so much!
Thomas

I probably have some extra Honeycrisp I collected from home.

Due to the prominant signs at the exchange I only took one scion each of most varieties.

…I seen those, too … and wondered if that was really necessary..? It’s the first year I’d seen such signs ..and actually broke the rule (just a little bit) while collecting some stuff before the show (and heading back to graft the day away..).

Seemed to me there was a heck of a lot of left-over wood… I wonder if ‘asking permission’ to take more than one scion would be a better idea? That way the folks working the scion table, and quite knowledgeable of just how few, rare, or popular a variety may be, could limit any real abuse…

It’s always interesting to see new rules implemented, but it’s good to share some feedback as to their practicality in reality

The reason it was implemented was because there were some young people walking out with fist fulls of scions to sell last year. Our extra scions go to Eugene after our event, so they will be used, hopefully by a home orchardist, not a commercial sales event.

Selling scions …now why didn’t I think of that  I hadn’t heard about the ‘resale,’ wow… I do think “Asking permission” for more than one scion would work … if they’re not honest to begin with, they’d likely grab a handful anyway. Are we checking folks at the exits..?

I’m glad to hear the extra wood’s going somewhere – there sure looked to be a lot of it!

…had a good time grafting to save/clone the Botner Collection yesterday at CCC. Sure wish I’d have had more than one of some of those scions to chose from… micro surgery - cleft-grafts on half inch rootstock ... with what one attendee described as "Scions the size of grass!" Pushed my envelope, though, and it's always great to see our amazing crew in action.

- thanks for the explanation, John.
