Piper Orchard Festival of Fruits
On Saturday, Sept. 15th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. if you are in the Seattle area please think about coming to our Harvest Festival.
We will have Tim Smith from Wenatchee speak to us. Tim is one of the best Extension agents in the country. He is world-class on knowing about fire blight, tree rootstocks, replant disease.....and is the guy who helped pioneer GF 120 NF naturalyte fruit fly bait.
GF 120 NF will be completely effective for backyard western cherry fruit flies. It is one of the few approved organic products.
It will be mostly effective for apple maggot flies.
And it will be somewhat effective for spotted wing drosophilia flies. (but other controls recommended as well)
GF 120 NF is an attract-and-kill for flies.....and it needs to be ordered through special venues. I have some and can help anyone in the Seattle area with this.
Also in attendance at our Harvest Fest will be Washington's apple I.D. specialist, Dr. Rob Norton. (we always welcome any of the HOS specialists who make their way up this way from Portland...... we won't be having a Fall Fruit Show in Seattle this year but we always welcome the ID specialists Portland provides.) Lori Brakken of our local society will also have a table where she will offer help with applie identifications and some new work that she is doing in that regard.
Cider-making. Pies. Orchard tour. Mason bees. etc. some samples of apples from our 100 plus year old orchard.
