Mary, I considered your original request... I know of only one member living in N. Portland, and he, like me - will be arriving very
early to finish grafting our "make-a-tree"
orders. He will also be grafting along side me for the duration, and likely heading off to eat with the gang afterwards. For us, it's a very long day...
I'm sorry no other members have responded, but like Steven pointed out, too few view our forum... Many of our members are older than myself, and like those my parent’s age, leery, if unfamiliar with "The Internet." One reason for my persistent posting is to cultivate a younger group of HOS Members
; and, I always encourage all
our members to contribute here.
Can you imagine the commute 'some of us' make..
I'd have to drive to Hillsboro (find a safe place to park), take MAX to downtown Portland (figure out where the busses have been moved), take the correct bus to Milwaukie and likely hike that two miles pulling my wagon of grafting supplies to a school I've never seen... I've 'griped' for several years that we get this event back to the "West side"... but in the case of the HOS
- beggars can't be choosers... We can no longer (because of National Security concerns) use our national guard armories, and since we haven't the funds to rent the Convention Center, generally look for a public entity, like a school, fair complex, or even a private location like Portland Nursery
so we can affordably continue this event.
My first volunteer 'benchgraft' customer at this event (at least 8 years ago) was a woman who’d driven up from south of Eugene... I've had 'customers' from the north & south coast, Washington (state), and Eastern Oregon. Rambling, aren’t I..? Well, I hope you remain a member, and continue posting (rants included)... I think we're gaining!
