Have any of you tried to grow mushrooms in your garden as a compliment to fruit or vegetables? It seems it would have a great diversifying effect. Of course, mycorrhizal fungi would help rather directly. It could also provide something to eat from the garden between now and June as well. One of the recommendations of the soil experts is that we make our gardens more fungal. I think I am in the process of figuring out how.

I try to encourage mushrooms wherever I can. I use old logs for the sides of my raised beds and wood chips for mulch and in pathways. I also bury old wood in new raised beds and mounds.
I usually get a pretty strong blooming in the spring that likely helps fertility and keeps the undersoil spongy. And hey - sometimes I get bonus morels in the garden too!
