Post Scion Placement Tips
I'm looking for help with what scion should go where on my trees, given the vigor characteristics of each variety.

I have scion wood for: Belle de Boskoop, Enterprise, Freedom, Newton Pippen & William's Pride.
I currently have two young trees in the ground: Honeycrisp & Liberty both on M7 rootstock.

Based on last year's growth, it seems the Liberty is more vigorous than the Honeycrisp. I'd say my overall objective is to have the trees be well balanced, eg putting the least vigorous on the S side of the Liberty, and the most vigorous on the N side of the Honeycrisp. I just don't know what order they'd fall into. Would folks be willing to rank my scion variety by vigor?

p.s. was no help.

I would put the boskoop on the north side of a tree, as I believe it is triploid and vigorous.

And the rest of them should go on the south sides of your trees to help get them going (sun exposure) provided you keep them from getting all shaded by leaves and branches of the main tree.

Adding cultivars to existing trees can be tricky unless human pressure is maintained.

Hey Asa,
I agree with plumfun;Belle de Boskoop is vigorous. On the other hand, it has gone from a tiny w & t graft to perhaps 40% of my Gala apple tree. I love B de B and I hate Gala, especially growing on the West side. So vigorous can be good, as mine is on the SW side of tree, which I moved 3 years ago.
