I have the yellow variety. It almost died this year, but I think it will survive. And I'm planning to get one more variety.

Burnt Ridge and OGW have Elegant at a very good price. I tasted this variety at OGW last year -- it was quite good.

Raintree has a lot more varieties. Anyone have any experience with them?

We got a cornus mas "Red Star" after tasting a few varieties at OGW this year.

I'd be interested in trying to grow some of the Yellow Cornus Mas from seeds, if anyone is willing to part with a few of them. I have planted out about 20 seeds of a superior tree I found in North Seattle two years ago.

I don't think of Cornus Mas (Cornelian Cherries) as like cranberries.I only eat them when they fall off the tree. I shake and collect every morning in August.I agree that they are sour before. They're still sour afterwards, but I think good to eat.I like cranberries, but I think of them as a real extreme food, like eating peperoncinis.I find them to be about the same size and flesh to pit ratio as an olive. There is nothing better than old-fashioned preserve from cornus mas, even cherry is far from that.

Jade,
:You probably don't want two trees. They will eventually become huge. You probably want to graft red star onto your yellow tree. Contact me offline so I can get you a scion.

I'm looking for cornus mas scions to graft onto my tree. If anyone could spare some cuttings I would be very appreciative. I'm willing to swap for other scions I have or pay postage. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Little John
