Post Tripod Ladders & Teufel's Nursery?
In the article I wrote for the Pome News, In Praise of the Tripod Orchard Ladder," http://www.homeorchardsociety.org/article/36/ I suggested contacting "Teufel's Nursery" to locate one. Our Webmaster just forwarded me an e-mail asking for additional information on Teufel's Nursery. I called both their (old) 'Retail' phone number, and their (Feb. 2005) "Wholesale Only" number. Both numbers brought me: "This number has been disconnected and is no longer in service..." message. And, there appears to be no Internet link to the nursery either.

Is Teufel's Nursery out of business? They've been my favorite place to browse for years. They've carried an excellent line of professional grafting knives, pruning equipment, plant labels and assorted goodies.... I know they've bounced between Retail & Wholesale, but as I've generally walked into their location (off the Sunset Freeway), they'd never turn me away ~

Anyway ... I suspect some might wonder where they can find a 'retail' outlet for the Tallman Ladders mentioned in my article. I searched them online too, and found the following link: http://www.tallmanladders.com/tripod.html I then E-mailed Tallman, requesting a 'local' outlet where a person may purchase one of their tripod orchard ladders. I'll post their response when I receive it, but until then, does anyone have the lowdown on Teufel's? I'd hate to 'show up' at an empty building

 Wow - gkowen - how'd you do that?! I used Google, and MSN Search Engines ... I wonder what's up with the phone numbers..? ... Ok, they're different, but the new one looks to be: 503 - 646 - 1111

- Here's what I'd received -

Message:
---------------
"Where is Teufels Nursery Supply? Do you have any contact info handy? You are the only site on the internet with a reference to the name. Thanks. Ed"

- Me and Ed must be using the wrong search engines, or words ....

- Anyway - I'll post Tallman's response, and update my "Teufel Products Co" contact numbers ~

Hmmmm, I just googled for 'Teufel's Nursery' and it was the first link. Computers I understand much better than these fruit trees, but I am learning.

You're good! Guess those "Tallmen" shouldn't bother answering me...? Here's what I just e-mailed to ED, from the Teufel's site:

Hi Ed, Steven forwarded your question to me, as I'd written the article on the Orchard Ladders. I just finished posting a 'question' on the Forum, asking about the same thing you did. I, too, tried to search for Teufel's, and got the same results. Shortly after my post, an answer came in - with a link to Teufel's!

I responded to the post, then searched the Teufel site. Here's where you'll want to go:

http://www.teufel.com/SearchResult.aspx ... d%20ladder

My ladder's an 8 footer, and I notice the price has about doubled ... in 15 years; but I also contacted the Tallman Ladder Co. in Hood River - I'll post their response on the Forum.

--- That Teufel's site is pretty nice, and glad to see they're still on Barnes Road ... and, they've an "800 number." Good work :D

 ... Said I'd post it, so here's my answer, just in from Tallman:

Subj: Re: Orchard Ladder Sales?
Date: 3/9/2006 2:10:17 PM Pacific Standard Time
From: tallman@gorge.net

Thank you for your inquiry. I called Teufel Nursery and they are still very much in business. We shipped ladders to them in November of 2005. Other dealers near Yamhill, OR are:
Wilbur-Ellis - Wilsonville (503) 227-3525 or Coastal Farm & Home - Woodburn (503) 981-6322.

Thank you again,
Ruth Duddles
