All About Fruit Show

PRESS RELEASE

Release Date: October 2003

Sink your teeth into heirloom apples and pears. Learn how to create a bountiful orchard on your own city lot: See master chefs create some of their favorite fruit recipes. Hear the secrets of making your own cider. Where?

The ALL ABOUT FRUIT SHOW, Saturday and Sunday October 18 and 19,
Clackamas County Fair Grounds, Canby Oregon, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Sponsored by the Home Orchard Society (HOS). Admission: $3 adults, $2 children, under 6 free. Free Parking.

There is no other place in Oregon where 100s of varieties of pears and apples (and a few exotic and rare fruits) are available for the public to see, taste and buy. Workshops by Vern Nelson (the Oregonian), Judy Bluehorse (Herbalist and Educator), Jim Gilbert (One Green World) and other local experts guide you through everything from landscaping with unusual fruits to showing you how Native Peoples' used blueberries.

Apply this knowledge by ordering custom grafted fruit trees or buy a cherry bush for the patio at the show. Or maybe you have an existing apple tree that's a mystery to solve. Bring an apple and a few leaves and our HOS sleuths can identify it for you for free.

Not a gardener? Then pick the brains of the HOS cider panel and learn how to brew up your own home cider, or gather tips on creating delectable dishes for your harvest party next week.

In addition, see fruit displays showing the ordinary and extraordinary along with gathering ideas for creating crafts and gifts from the home orchard. This event is for the entire family.

Oh, and don't forget about the Apple Pie Contest.
