PRESS RELEASE All About Fruit Show Release Date: September/October 2004 "Richer, Sweeter, and Home-Grown: Come See How" is the theme of the Home Orchard Society's annual All About Fruit Show. See the largest display of fruit in the U.S. Sink your teeth into heirloom apples and pears. Learn how to create a bountiful orchard on your own city lot; Learn about unusual fruits to grow; Hear and see the secrets of making your own cider. The ALL ABOUT FRUIT SHOW, Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17, Clackamas County Fair Grounds, Canby Oregon, 9:00am to 4:00pm. Sponsored by the Home Orchard Society (HOS). Admission: $3 adults, $5 family and children under 6 free. Free Parking. There is no other place in Oregon where 100's of varieties of pears and apples (and a few exotic and rare fruits) are available for the public to see and taste. Several varieties will be available to buy. Speakers and topics: Saturday 10-11am - Why Have a Home Orchard; Will Newman, owner of a small farm and grower of many different fruits; 11:15-12:15am- Small Fruits; Lucile Whitman, owner of Whitman Farms, grower of 56 varieties of currents, 31 varieties of gooseberries; 1-2pm - Organic Control in the HOS Arboretum; Karen Tillou, manager of the HOS Arboretum; 2:15-3:15pm - Richer, Sweeter and Home-Grown: Ask the Experts - Panel; Sunday 11:15-12:15am - Why Have a Home Orchard; Will Newman, owner of a small farm and grower of many different fruits; 1-2pm - Master Food Preservers; Rita Amadoro, give advice on how to preserve your harvest of fruit; 2:15-3:15pm - Cider and Vinegar Panel. Apply this knowledge by ordering custom grafted fruit trees or buy a cherry bush for the patio at the show. Or maybe you have an existing apple tree that's a mystery to solve. Bring unknown apples and our HOS sleuths can identify it for you for free. Not a gardener?
