PRESS RELEASE Release Date: November 2004 Postman Takes H.O.S. Plant Exploring On November 13, 2004, The Home Orchard Society members and friends will have the opportunity to share Joseph Postman's September 2004 plant exploration and collecting trip to the Republic of Georgia (formerly part of the Soviet Union). Joseph is Plant Pathologist and Pome Fruit Curator at the UNDA/ARS National Clonal Germplasm Repository in Corvallis. The Postman trip is timed to cover the seed maturation period of many of the targeted species. It is planned that budwood could be collected from deciduous fruit cultivars also. Apricot, apple, chestnut, citrus, pear, plum, currant, gooseberry, bramble, huckleberry and grapes are some of the wild and/or cultivated fruits and nuts that are at home in the Republic of Georgia. The November 13 get-together will be held at the Abernathy Grange in Oregon City and will begin at 1:00 PM with a potluck dinner. Joseph will then take his audience on a exploration adventure to the Republic of Georgia. Following, H.O.S. president Ted Swensen will give a bird's eye-view of the past year and upcoming "not to be missed" Home Orchard Society events.
