Criteria For Apple Identification

  • Select 5 to 6 apples from each tree, as free of insects and damage as possible.
  •  Do not wash or polish the apples
  •  Leave the stem on the apples
  •  If the apples are ready to pick prior to the show, bag them and put them in the refrigerator to hold until show time.
  • Try to determine the approximate age of the tree. Was it planted when the house was built?
  • If the unknown apple is from an old orchard of several trees, we suggest making a map of the orchard, giving each tree a number, then numbering the sack as you pick from that tree.
